Culture Minister Inaugurates New Headquarters of Algeria’s National Centre for Cinematography
The new facility in Algiers introduces a one-stop administrative service for film professionals, streamlining licensing and public support procedures, as authorities pledge broader consultation with industry stakeholders to support the development of Algeria’s cinema sector.

ALGIERS — Minister of Culture and Arts Malika Bendouda on Sunday inaugurated the new headquarters of the National Centre for Cinematography (CNC) in the Algiers municipality of Hydra, as part of government efforts to modernise public administration and improve services for Algeria’s film industry.
According to a ministry statement, the new facility is designed to support the ongoing development of the national cinema sector by providing more efficient administrative services and improving institutional support for filmmakers and audiovisual professionals.
A key feature of the new headquarters is the establishment of a one-stop service centre, bringing together administrative procedures related to cinematographic activities within a single location. The system is intended to simplify formalities, accelerate the processing of applications and improve the quality of public services available to industry professionals.
The one-stop office will process applications for cinematographic exhibition licences, cultural visas, public funding for film projects, and authorisations covering various cinematographic activities.
During the inauguration ceremony, the one-stop service centre was officially named after the late Algerian filmmaker Lamine Merbah, who passed away and was laid to rest on Saturday. The ministry said the tribute recognises his artistic career and contribution to the development of Algerian cinema.
The ceremony was attended by filmmakers, producers, artists and other representatives of Algeria’s film community. Bendouda met with industry stakeholders, listening to their concerns, proposals and expectations regarding the future of the sector.
The minister stressed that developing Algeria’s film industry is a shared responsibility requiring the combined efforts of all stakeholders.
She also announced that the ministry would convene a consultative meeting with members of Algeria’s cinema community in the near future. The forum will provide a platform for dialogue on professional concerns, proposals and strategic priorities, while promoting a more participatory approach to shaping the future direction of the country’s film industry.
