Algeria Launches Remote Biometric Passport Renewal Service for Citizens Abroad

ALGIERS – Algeria has launched a new digital service enabling members of its diaspora to renew their biometric passports remotely, marking a further step in the country’s broader digital transformation agenda and efforts to modernise public administration.
The initiative was jointly announced on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior, Local Assemblies and Transport, according to an official statement.
The new service allows Algerian nationals residing abroad to submit biometric passport renewal applications online, eliminating the need for an initial in-person consular visit and streamlining access to administrative services.
Authorities said the measure forms part of the implementation of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s commitments to accelerate digitalisation, modernise public services, and improve the quality and efficiency of administrative and consular procedures.
According to the statement, the initiative is intended to enhance access to official documentation services while strengthening the relationship between public institutions and Algerian citizens living overseas.
The launch also reflects ongoing efforts by the government to build a more efficient, citizen-centred administration through the deployment of secure digital platforms and streamlined service delivery mechanisms.
Under the new system, applicants can access a dedicated online platform through the Ministry of Interior’s official website, create a secure personal account, submit passport renewal requests electronically, upload the required supporting documents, and track the progress of their applications throughout the processing cycle until passport issuance.
