ALGIERS – Leaders of Algeria’s political parties continued campaigning on Wednesday ahead of the July 2 legislative elections, using rallies across several provinces to underscore themes of institutional strengthening, democratic participation, national development, and youth engagement as the campaign entered its 16th day.
Speaking at a campaign event in Oran, Mounder Bouden, Secretary-General of the National Democratic Rally (RND), said the party would seek during the next parliamentary term to support the nationwide development programmes currently being implemented across Algeria’s provinces. He stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in economic and social development efforts aimed at improving living standards and supporting regional growth.
In Touggourt, Fateh Boutbig, President of El Moustakbal Front, argued that Algeria requires a strong parliament composed of qualified national competencies capable of fulfilling legislative, oversight, monitoring and policy proposal functions while safeguarding national interests.
Addressing supporters in El Oued, Abdelali Hassani Cherif, President of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP), described elections as a fundamental democratic mechanism for building robust constitutional institutions and reinforcing the country’s institutional framework.
Meanwhile, in Tizi Ouzou, Lakhdar Amokrane, President of the Jil Jadid Party, said his party’s electoral programme places development at its core, with a particular focus on addressing the aspirations and needs of Algeria’s youth.
At a rally in El Tarf, Djamel Benabdeslam, President of the New Algeria Front (FAN), characterised the upcoming legislative elections as an important milestone in consolidating state institutions and strengthening governance structures.
Speaking in Laghouat, Fatima-Zohra Zerouati, President of Tajamou Amel El Djazair (TAJ), called for strong voter turnout, arguing that broad participation is essential to reinforcing the democratic process and ensuring that citizens’ aspirations are effectively addressed through representative institutions.
In Jijel, Tahar Benbaïbeche, President of the El-Fadjr El-Djadid Party, encouraged young voters to participate actively in the elections, describing their engagement as an important contribution to the continued construction of national institutions and the strengthening of state-building efforts.
For her part, Louisa Hanoune, Secretary-General of the Workers’ Party (PT), told supporters in Bejaia that elected representatives from her party would focus on giving voice to diverse segments of society and defending citizens’ social and economic concerns within parliament.
The July 2 legislative elections are being presented by political parties across the spectrum as a key stage in Algeria’s institutional development, with campaign discourse increasingly centred on governance, representation, democratic participation and national development priorities.
