Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has expressed his condolences following the death of Professor Chems Eddine Chitour, former Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies and member of the Council of the Nation.

In a message of condolence, the President said he received the news “with profound emotion,” describing Chitour as one of Algeria’s most eminent academics.

He highlighted the late professor’s scientific career, noting contributions and research widely regarded as reference works in academic and research circles and used extensively by students and specialists.

Chitour previously served as Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies before later being appointed to the Council of the Nation. He was recognised, the message added, for his scientific expertise, professional competence and consistent national commitment, as well as his long-standing attachment to Algeria.

President Tebboune extended condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, members of the academic community and colleagues at the Council of the Nation, expressing “deep compassion” and praying for God to grant the deceased mercy and to give his family patience and solace.
