Hydraulics Minister Calls for Stable Drinking Water Supply and Emergency Plan Ahead of Summer Demand

Hydraulics Minister Lounès Bouzegza has called for a regular and uninterrupted supply of drinking water nationwide, as he chaired his first meeting with central ministry officials and heads of public water institutions on Sunday, according to a ministry statement.
The meeting, held in the presence of the sector’s trade union secretary-general, reviewed priorities for the coming phase and set out the ministry’s working approach following his appointment.
Bouzegza thanked President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the confidence placed in him and stressed the need for coordinated efforts to address citizens’ concerns, particularly regarding continuity of potable water supply across the country.
He instructed the preparation of an emergency action plan ahead of Eid El-Adha and the summer season to ensure stable distribution, alongside a diagnostic review of sector performance to address disruptions in certain regions.
The minister also called for stronger communication with citizens, including timely information on outages and service interruptions, while highlighting the need to value staff efforts and promote rapid, practical solutions.
He further urged more efficient use of existing infrastructure, rational management of water resources from both conventional and non-conventional sources, and stricter measures against leaks and illegal connections.
Bouzegza concluded by reaffirming his commitment to sustained field monitoring to improve public water services and meet citizen expectations.
