Algerian Red Crescent Mobilises Volunteers to Support Victims of Boumerdes Bus Tragedy
The Algerian Red Crescent has deployed volunteers to assist families of those killed and injured in the Boumerdes bus disaster, as nationwide relief efforts intensify alongside President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb’s field visit, and Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud’s oversight of emergency response and the ongoing investigation.

ALGIERS – The Algerian Red Crescent (ARC) has mobilised its volunteers to support victims and families affected by the deadly bus accident in Boumerdes, expanding the nationwide humanitarian response launched following one of Algeria’s deadliest road tragedies in recent years.
According to the organisation, volunteers have been deployed to receive, guide and accompany the families of victims and injured passengers, while providing psychological first aid and emotional support throughout the crisis. The ARC is also actively participating in blood donation campaigns to reinforce medical efforts and ensure hospitals have sufficient blood supplies for the treatment of the injured.
The humanitarian mobilisation comes as Algerian authorities continue to coordinate a broad emergency response following Friday’s bus crash, which, according to the latest provisional toll, claimed 25 lives and left 44 others injured.
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune declared a three-day national mourning period following the tragedy and pledged that justice would hold those responsible accountable once the ongoing investigation establishes the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Acting on the President’s instructions, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb travelled to Boumerdes and later visited injured survivors receiving treatment in hospitals in Boumerdes and Algiers, where he reviewed medical care and urged transport operators to recognise that passengers’ lives are “a trust placed in their hands.”
Interior, Local Assemblies and Transport Minister Saïd Sayoud, who accompanied the Prime Minister during parts of the emergency response, confirmed that security services had opened a formal investigation into the causes of the crash while mobilising all available resources to ensure comprehensive medical care for the injured.
