Boufedeche, Nasri Offer Condolences Following Boumerdes Bus Tragedy as National Solidarity Intensifies
Senior Algerian officials continued to express solidarity following the deadly Boumerdes bus crash, as People’s National Assembly President Dr. Khalida Boufedeche and Council of the Nation President Azouz Nasri extended their condolences to the victims’ families. Their messages came amid a nationwide response led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who declared three days of national mourning, and Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb and Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud, who have overseen emergency relief efforts and investigations into the country’s deadliest road accident in recent years.

ALGIERS – The president of Algeria’s People’s National Assembly (APN), Dr. Khalida Boufedeche, and the president of the Council of the Nation, Azouz Nasri, on Friday expressed their condolences following the devastating bus crash in Boumerdes that claimed at least 25 lives and left 44 others injured, as the country’s leadership continued to mobilize around the national tragedy.
In a message published by the APN, Boufedeche said she had learned of the accident “with profound sadness,” extending her deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families while praying for Almighty Allah’s mercy upon the victims and a speedy recovery for those injured.
“It is with immense sorrow that I learned of the tragic road accident in the wilaya of Boumerdes, which claimed the lives of several of our fellow citizens and left many others injured,” she said. “In these painful circumstances, I extend my sincere condolences and deepest compassion to the bereaved families. I pray to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased His infinite mercy and to hasten the recovery of the injured.”
Council of the Nation President Azouz Nasri also conveyed his condolences, describing the accident as a national tragedy.
“It is with profound grief that we learned of the tragedy caused by the overturning of a passenger bus in Boumerdes, which resulted in the death of several of our fellow citizens and injured dozens more,” Nasri said, praying for mercy upon the victims, patience for their families and a swift recovery for the injured.
The parliamentary messages come as Algeria’s highest authorities continue to coordinate a nationwide response following the catastrophe, one of the deadliest road accidents in the country in recent years.
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune earlier declared three days of national mourning and ordered flags to fly at half-mast across the country. In his message of condolence, he described reckless drivers responsible for such tragedies as “terrorists of the road” and pledged that justice would deal firmly with anyone found responsible once the ongoing judicial investigation establishes the circumstances of the accident.
Acting on the president’s instructions, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb travelled to Boumerdes before visiting injured survivors at hospitals in Boumerdes and Algiers, where he reviewed medical care arrangements and urged transport operators and professional drivers to exercise the highest levels of responsibility, stressing that “the lives of passengers are a trust placed in your hands.”
Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud, who accompanied the prime minister during the hospital visits, confirmed that security authorities had launched a full investigation into the causes of the accident while mobilising all available resources to ensure optimal medical treatment for the injured. Several patients requiring specialised care were transferred to major hospitals in the capital, including Mustapha Pacha University Hospital, Salim Zemirli Hospital and Mohamed Lamine Debaghine Hospital.
Emergency services remain engaged in assisting victims’ families, while authorities have implemented a series of support measures, including temporary accommodation facilities and victim identification procedures, as Algeria continues to mourn one of its most devastating transport disasters.
