National Gendarmerie Urges Families of Boumerdes Bus Crash Victims to Assist with Identification

ALGIERS – Algeria’s National Gendarmerie on Friday called on the families of victims killed in the catastrophic bus crash in Boumerdes to report to the El-Eulma Gendarmerie Brigade to assist authorities in the formal identification of the deceased, as forensic and emergency procedures continue in the aftermath of the disaster.

The appeal comes after a passenger bus veered off the road, overturned and plunged into a ravine early Friday morning along the Berrahmoun-El Karma bypass in Boumerdes province, leaving 25 people dead and 44 others injured, according to the latest provisional toll released by the Civil Protection services.

The identification process forms part of the ongoing judicial and forensic procedures initiated following the accident, while emergency teams continue coordinating with hospitals and relevant authorities to support victims and their families.

In response to the tragedy, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune declared three days of national mourning across the country and extended his condolences to the families of those killed. The President also denounced the actions of “road terrorists,” stressing that justice would deal firmly with anyone found responsible once the official investigation determines the circumstances of the crash.

Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to establish the causes of the accident, while government institutions remain mobilized to ensure medical care for the injured and provide administrative and logistical assistance to affected families.
