Boumerdes Bus Tragedy Death Toll Rises to 25 as Rescue Operations Continue
The death toll from a catastrophic passenger bus accident in Algeria’s northern province of Boumerdes has climbed to 25, with 44 others injured, as emergency crews continue rescue and evacuation operations following one of the country’s deadliest road disasters this year. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash while warning that the toll remains provisional.

ALGIERS – The death toll from a devastating passenger bus accident in Algeria’s northern province of Boumerdes has risen to 25, while 44 people sustained injuries, according to an updated provisional assessment released by the Civil Protection authority, as emergency responders continued search, rescue and evacuation operations at the scene.
The accident occurred on Friday after a passenger bus reportedly skidded off the roadway, overturned and plunged into a ravine along the Rahmoun El-Karma bypass in the municipality and district of Boumerdes, east of the capital, Algiers.
Civil Protection officials said rescue teams remained engaged in extracting victims and transporting the injured to nearby medical facilities, cautioning that the casualty figures could still increase as operations continued.
To manage the emergency, the Civil Protection authority deployed a large-scale response, mobilising two heavy rescue vehicles, eleven ambulances and specialised emergency teams to secure the crash site, recover victims and provide urgent medical assistance.
