Interior Minister Sayoud Calls for Strong Voter Turnout, Says Full State Logistics Mobilised for Legislative Elections

ALGIERS — Algeria’s Minister of the Interior, Local Assemblies and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, cast his ballot on Thursday in the country’s legislative elections, urging citizens to participate in large numbers while affirming that the state had mobilised all necessary logistical resources to ensure the smooth conduct of the nationwide vote.
Sayoud voted at Ahmed Aroua Primary School in Bouchaoui, west of Algiers, joining millions of Algerians participating in elections to renew the 407-seat People’s National Assembly (APN). The vote is being conducted across 69 electoral constituencies, with more than 24.7 million registered voters, including 854,285 Algerians residing abroad, under the supervision of the National Independent Election Authority (ANIE).
Speaking to reporters after casting his ballot, Sayoud encouraged citizens to participate actively in the elections and freely choose their representatives to the People’s National Assembly through the ballot box.
He said the government had mobilised all logistical, organisational and operational resources required to ensure the successful conduct of the legislative elections, stressing that the authorities had put in place the necessary conditions for voters to exercise their democratic rights under normal circumstances.
The minister also paid tribute to the outgoing legislature, describing it as a parliamentary term marked by sustained legislative activity and institutional dynamism.
According to Sayoud, the previous People’s National Assembly adopted numerous important pieces of legislation while serving as a platform for conveying citizens’ concerns and priorities through parliamentary debate and oversight.
The legislative elections are being held amid extensive logistical preparations involving 13,664 polling centres and 63,385 polling stations across Algeria, including 134 mobile polling stations serving remote areas. More than 9,854 candidates representing 793 electoral lists are contesting the 407 parliamentary seats, while 54 electoral lists are competing for the 12 seats allocated to Algeria’s diaspora.
The National Independent Election Authority (ANIE) is expected to announce provisional results within 48 hours after the completion of vote counting, before the Constitutional Court certifies the final results following the examination of any electoral appeals.
