Nasri Describes Senegal as a Key African Partner During Talks with Foreign Minister
Council of the Nation President Azouz Nasri and Senegalese Foreign Minister Cheikh Niang reaffirmed the strength of bilateral relations, called for closer political and parliamentary cooperation, and exchanged views on African integration, regional and international issues.

ALGIERS — Council of the Nation President Azzouz Nasri on Sunday received Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, reaffirming the longstanding ties between Algeria and Senegal and underscoring both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and parliamentary coordination.
According to a statement, Nasri highlighted the historic relations and fraternal bonds linking Algeria and Senegal, noting that they are rooted in shared support for African liberation movements and a longstanding commitment to the principles of African solidarity and integration.
He said Algeria, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, attaches particular importance to deepening relations with Senegal, describing the country as “a major partner on the African continent.”
Nasri stressed the importance of building on the political will shared by the leadership of both countries to elevate bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors in the common interests of the Algerian and Senegalese peoples.
For his part, Niang expressed Senegal’s appreciation for its longstanding relations of friendship and cooperation with Algeria, commending the country’s role under President Tebboune in promoting peace, stability, development and African integration.
The Senegalese foreign minister said Algeria occupies a leading position in Africa and serves as a source of inspiration for many countries in the political, economic and parliamentary spheres.
The two sides also noted the convergence of their positions on key regional and international issues of common interest. Niang reaffirmed Senegal’s support for initiatives undertaken by Algeria within international organisations in support of those causes.
Both parties further underlined the importance of strengthening African integration, reinforcing the principles of good neighbourliness, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and promoting dialogue and the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with the United Nations Charter and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
During the meeting, Nasri reiterated Algeria’s longstanding support for just causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, reaffirming the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. He also condemned recent decisions adopted by the Zionist parliament, characterising them as a further violation of international law and relevant international resolutions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasised the importance of strengthening consultation and coordination between Algerian and Senegalese parliamentary delegations within regional, continental and international parliamentary organisations. They said closer coordination would help harmonise positions on issues of common interest, defend the interests of the African continent and promote multilateral parliamentary action in support of peace, security and sustainable development.
